“It is New Year’s tomorrow. And I still haven’t bought any gift for mom and dad! Hell what do I do?”
Riddhima had been planning for New Year’s since she was 10 years old but this year she failed do to so. 1st year in college and before vacation semester had left her with no time to hunt for gifts for her mom and dad. She had already spent more than two hours surfing different lanes and shops of Bandra. She also spent an hour earlier in some mall but found nothing and thought her new year’s doomed for sure this time until she saw a bunch of hippies near the ST. Andrews church only to realize they were college students sporting the very in “Stubble Look.” She remembered her mom mentioning to her - His clean shaven look bowled me over – when she had asked her Mom what was the first thing that attracted her to her father. And just then and there she knew what her New Year gift would be to her parents this year.
Next day when her parents were getting ready for the New Year’s Party, she walked into her parents’ room with her dad and her mom dropped her earring in surprise. Riddhima had made her dad shave off his French beard which he had been sporting for more than 4 months now and it looked more like some retro beard. The clean shaven look was her Mom’s gift she explained and her Mom’s twinkling eyes said it all. Later in the car her father asked her for his gift and Riddhima said – “I gifted you that lovely look on Mom’s face! What else do you want?”
Her parents smiled at each other and she went back to staring at the beautifully lit city feeling all proud of herself.
